All sessions are now being held at the new SI/S3 Studios and SI FIT educational facility located at Stautzenberger Institute in Allen Park (16630 Southfield Road, Allen Park, Michigan 48101).
This class is designed to teach each student the basic skill sets necessary to work in an entry-level, non-union position in the Physical Special Effects Departments on Films, Television, and Commercial Productions. This film industry training class offers students the ability to develop the skills required to become entry level crew members on a feature film, television, and commercial production. In addition to 40 hours of classroom time, students are guaranteed a film production or industry related internship as part of this program. After the initial internship, there may be additional internship or job placement assistance based upon previous internship performance. This class will concentrate on Physical Special FX and will include the following areas of study:
- Rain, wind, snow, fire, and water effects, including the different ways to create and safety considerations
- Life casting, including sculpting, mold making, running of prosthetic materials and application and color techniques
- Special FX Prosthetic Makeup
- Script reading and Special Effects Breakdown
- Fire, including cast and crew safety requirements, laws and regulations, certificates of compliance, and more
- Location work and Special Effects
- Pyrotechnics, including licensing requirements, purchase and use, safety requirements and stunts
- Special Effects and vehicles, including preparing vehicles for an Effect, what effect is to be achieved, and how to achieve safely
- Breakaway, what is it, how to make it, and when to use
- Set Etiquette, including chain of command, working on a set, and set dialogue
The Physical Special FX Class is taught in 40 hours, over a two-week period. Classes are held at the new SI/S3 Studio Classroom in Allen Park.
